Certified Hand Therapist

What is a Certified Hand Therapist?

A certified hand therapist (CHT) is an OT or PT by profession with at least five years of experience, plus 4,000 hours of hand therapy practice (upper extremity rehabilitation). They must have passed a certification examination that demonstrates knowledge of all areas of hand therapy before being granted the right to use the CHT designation. Hand therapists must renew their credential every five years through continued education and participation in hand therapy to continue using the CHT designation.

Whether you have a new or chronic injury that is preventing you from using your hand, finger, or arm there are solutions that can help. Specialized hand therapists are using many innovative procedures to help those with arthritis, trauma, surgery, or even repetitive stress problems. Simple and affordable supports, braces, and orthotics can potentially bring dramatic and immediate results.
